Robin Wright has spent two seasons playing ruthless politician's wife Claire Underwood on the hit series House of Cards, and fans will tell you it's hard to imagine anyone else in the role.
But the actress almost didn't take the part for fear she'd have to get plastic surgery in order to look younger.
"I was sitting there going, 'You're 45, and you're not gonna get a face-lift,'" the now 48-year-old remembers when being approached for the part.
"I was really considering that stuff, because in Hollywood the pressure's there. You better lift that face and pump those lips and hike those boobs! And I was like, 'I don't want to do that. I'm going to get older. I'm going to have wrinkles!'"
Now, instead of a whole new face, the pixie-haired star revealed she settles for "the tiniest sprinkle of Botox twice a year."
Tinseltown presented a different reality for Robin when she returned to the spotlight after taking time to raise kids Dylan, 23, and Hopper, 20. But she also turned down plenty of "wife and arm candy" roles thrown her way.
"Hollywood is difficult to navigate if you have integrity, so I opted not to work if there wasn't enough to do in a role, which doesn't have to do with the role's size," she explained.
"If there's nothing for me to do as an actress, that's frustrating...I'd rather go work at a menial labor job, where I can actually get my hands dirty."
But the newly engaged star understands she doesn't have the same box-office appeal as some of her peers.
"In a sense it hurts, because you're like, 'I want to play too! I just don't want to play that way,'" she shared. "I'm not up there with Kate Winslet and Julia Roberts. I don't sell tickets. I've known that for a long time."
Despite the lack of strong roles being offered to her, the blonde beauty is extremely grateful for her 30-year-career, especially her first film, 1987's blockbuster hit, The Princess Bride.
"It was my first film experience, and so you might say that I fully immersed myself in the role," she told Town & Country magazine. "I did not act. It was mostly telling myself, 'Don't be an idiot in front of Mandy Patinkin and Christopher Guest.'"
