Timeless pieces never go out of style! Kate Middleton was giving the honor of carrying on an important tradition of wearing the royal family’s jewels — and this time, the piece she wore was had an extra special history. Queen Elizabeth let the Duchess of Cambridge borrow a pearl and diamond choker necklace, which was the same necklace that Kate’s late mother-in-law — the beloved Princess Diana — had also worn in the past.

The necklace featured a gorgeous set of pearls that are four strands wide, and each strand is attached to an oval-shaped diamond pendant in the center. Kate wore the beautiful statement piece to commemorate Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip’s platinum wedding anniversary on Monday, Nov. 20 — which marks 70 years of marriage. The royal couple celebrated by hosting a private dinner at Windsor Castle, and Kate — who is currently pregnant and expecting baby No. 3 — was spotted arriving at the dinner with her husband Prince William and her brother-in-law, Prince Harry.

Queen Elizabeth had the choker commissioned after she was gifted a set of cultured pearls from the Japanese government, according to The Telegraph, and she has been seen wearing the necklace throughout the 1980s and the 1990s. The late Princess Diana had borrowed the choker in 1982 — the year Kate was born — and she wore it to a Netherlands state banquet.

But the pearl necklace wasn’t the only thing that Kate recycled for the event! She also wore her favorite Diane von Furstenberg Zarita dress — which marks the second time this month that she’s worn the black lace gown. She also wore it to the Kensington Palace gala, and it seems like now that Kate is well into the second trimester of her pregnancy, she’s sticking to her tried and true fashion looks.
