There’s another royal wedding in the works! Hours after Princess Eugenie announced her engagement to her longtime boyfriend Jack Brooksbank, the newly-engaged couple opened up about their romance in their first-ever joint interview. To start, Eugenie recalled Jack’s “incredible” proposal while the two were vacationing in Nicaragua earlier this month.

“The lake was so beautiful. The light was just a special light I had never seen. I actually said, ‘This is an incredible moment,’ and then he popped the question, which was really surprising even though we had been together seven years. It was the perfect moment because we knew it was going to end up this way. I was over the moon, crying,” the 27-year-old princess gushed during their sit-down with the BBC’s Matt Baker on Monday, Jan. 22.

Eugenie — who is the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York — also revealed that her grandmother Queen Elizabeth was one of the first royal family members to know about the engagement. “Granny actually knew right at the beginning [of the engagement]. We left her this weekend and had a lovely time and she was very happy, as was my grandfather,” she confessed. “We literally just told our mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters and our grandparents.”

The royal also opened up about how she and Jack first met years ago. Eugenie gushed it was “love at first sight” when they were introduced by a mutual friend during a ski trip in Switzerland back in 2010. “We met when I was 20 and he was 24 and fell in love and we have the same passions and drive for life. It’s so nice that we get to share this moment with everyone and you get to meet Jack,” she said. Jack sweetly added, “It’s very special to be part of your family now, but it’s just Jack and Euge I suppose.”

The royal family officially announced Eugenie and Jack’s engagement on Monday, Jan. 22. “The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Princess Eugenie to Mr. Jack Brooksbank,” a statement posted to Instagram read. “Her Royal Highness and Mr. Brooksbank became engaged in Nicaragua earlier this month. The wedding will take place in the Autumn of 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, with further details to be announced in due course.” Jack’s parents, Nicola and George Brooksbank, also gushed about the happy moment. “We could not be more delighted with the news of the engagement,” they said in a statement.

After Eugenie showed off her “lotus blossom” engagement ring from Jack, many royal fans pointed out that the rock looks very similar to her mom Fergie’s ring from Prince Andrew. Eugenie’s ring features a pink-orange padparadscha sapphire surrounded by diamonds while her mother’s rock has a similar pink Burma ruby surrounded by diamonds. During their BBC interview, the couple also revealed more details about Eugenie’s unique engagement ring.

“It was amazing. I found a ring… and then proposed to Eugenie without it and came back and we designed the diamonds around this padparadscha sapphire. I went and found an amazing sapphire but then didn’t want to do anything until Eugenie had signed off on it,” Jack said. “And what’s amazing about it is that it changes color from every different angle that you look at it, which is what I think of Eugenie. That she changes color and is just so amazing.” Eugenie gushed, “It feels very strange to be wearing it. It’s very nice.”

Now that their royal engagement has been announced, Eugenie and Jack are jumping right into wedding planning. The two are set to tie the knot this fall in Windsor Castle, just a few months after the princess’s cousin Prince Harry marries Meghan Markle at the same venue! “We’ll do it together. [Planning will start] tomorrow I assume,” Eugenie said to which her fiancé quipped, “I’m not sure I’ll get a word in edgeways!” We can’t wait for Jack and Eugenie’s big day later this year!
