Kate and William’s Engagement Interview Is Almost Identical to Harry and Meghan’s — So Cute!

Move over Kate Middleton and Prince William — there’s a new favorite royal couple! Kensington Palace officially announced the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Nov. 27, and the adorable couple already gave their first-ever interview together. Harry and Meghan gushed over each other, the details of the proposal, and whether or not they’d get to work straight away on making more royal babies — and we couldn’t help but notice the similarities between their interview with the BBC and the one that Kate and William had with Sky News after their 2010 engagement, which was also announced during the month of November.

On the proposal

Kate and William: “It was about three weeks ago on holiday in Kenya. We had a little private time away together with some friends and I just decided that it was the right time really. We had been talking about marriage for a while so it wasn’t a massively big surprise. I took her up somewhere nice in Kenya and I proposed,” William said.

Meghan and Harry: “It happened a few weeks ago, earlier this month, here at our cottage; just a standard typical night for us,” Harry said, and Meghan sweetly interjected, “Just a cozy night, it was — what we were doing just roasting chicken and it just — just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee.”

On their first meeting

Kate and William: “Well, that’s a long time ago now,” William said, and Kate laughed. “We obviously met at university, St. Andrews, and we were friends for over a year first and it just sort of blossomed from then on. We just spent more time with each other and had a good giggle, had lots of fun, and realized we share the same interests and just had a really good time and then things happened.”

Meghan and Harry: “Ah yes, we first met — we were introduced actually by a mutual friend, who — we will protect her privacy.But it was literally through her,” Harry said, and Meghan added, “Yes, it was definitely a setup. It was a blind date.”

On babies

Kate and William: “I think we’ll take it one step at a time. We’ll sort of get over the marriage first and then maybe look at the kids. But obviously, we want a family so we’ll have to start thinking about that,” William said.

Meghan and Harry: “Not, not currently no. No, of course you know. I think you know one step at a time, and hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future,” Harry said.

On the late Princess Diana

Kate and William: “Obviously I would have loved to have met her and she’s obviously she’s an inspirational woman to look up to,” Kate said, and William added, “There’s no pressure though. There’s no pressure like Kate said it is about carving your own future. No one is going to try to fill my mother’s shoes, what she did was fantastic. It’s about making your own future and your own destiny and Kate will do a very good job of that.”

Meghan and Harry: “Oh they’d be thick as thieves, without question. I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know so excited for me, but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends — best friends with Meghan. So no it’s — you know it is days like —days like today when — when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news. But you know with the ring and with everything else that’s going on I’m sure she’s…” Harry said, trailing off and Meghan said, “She’s with us.”

On royal duties

Kate and William: “Yes, well I really hope I can make a difference, even in the smallest way. I am looking forward to helping as much as I can,” Kate said.

Meghan and Harry: “I think what’s been really exciting as we talk about the transition of this out of my career but into the role is that as you said the causes that have been very important to me, I can focus even more energy on. Because very early out of the gate I think you realize once you have access or a voice that people are willing to listen to with that comes a lot of responsibility, which I take seriously. And at the same time I think in these beginning few months and now being boots on the ground in the U.K. I’m excited to just really get to know more about the different communities here, smaller organizations we’re working on the same causes that I’ve always been passionate about under this umbrella. And and also being able to go around the commonwealth I think is just just the beginning of that,” Meghan said.
