For her first official visit to Scotland as a soon-to-be member of the royal family, Meghan Markle proved that she’s already mastering the art of low-key diplomatic dressing, wearing a Burberry coat in a muted blue and green tartan as she greeted well-wishers gathered outside Edinburgh Castle on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The coat in question is a double-breasted style from the British brand’s latest collection, which made its debut on the London Fashion Week catwalk back in September and is currently available on Net-a-Porter for around $2,770.

In choosing a tartan style for her latest royal “walkabout” (and her fifth royal outing since her engagement to Prince Harry was announced back in November), Meghan isn’t just showcasing Scotland’s famous fabric: she’s also nodding to the print of the moment. Checks were out in force on the S/S’18 catwalks in September, from Burberry’s rejuvenation of their classic beige-and-black fabric to vibrant colors at Peter Pilotto and the (appropriately) royal-inspired wool coats at Erdem.

As for the rest of her outfit? The Duchess-in-waiting paired her Burberry outerwear with a simple roll-neck sweater in black, thought to be a bodysuit by Wolford, the brand best known for their luxury hosiery, and wide-leg trousers by Veronica Beard. She carried the East/West crossbody bag in green by Scottish accessories brand Strathberry. Though the style has already sold out in green, it’s currently available in a variety of equally covetable colors on the brand’s website, priced from $660. Meghan previously carried Strathberry’s midi tote for her first royal occasion, a trip to Nottingham with Harry, 33, causing the bag to sell out in a matter of moments (it’s set to be re-stocked again later this year if you’re still holding out for your own).

After being welcomed to the city by the Royal Marines Scotland band and visiting Edinburgh Castle, the couple headed to Social Bite, an enterprise which distributes food and hot drinks to homeless people around Scotland.
