On Sunday, May 17, the Duke of Värmland, 36 — who is the only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden and third in line to the Swedish throne — and Sofia, 30, participated in a traditional reading of the banns of marriage at Stockholm's Royal Chapel.

This ceremony serves as the couple's official announcement that they intend to marry on a later date. They previously publicized their upcoming wedding date last October after announcing their engagement in June 2014.

Sofia's new royal title was also revealed during the reading of the banns of marriage. Following their wedding, the former reality TV star will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Sofia.
Carl Philip's elder sister, Crown Princess Victoria, will ascend to the Swedish throne when her father either abdicates or passes away. The second in line to the throne is Victoria's three-year-old daughter, Princess Estelle. The prince also has a younger sister, Princess Madeleine, who is a mom to a 15-month-old daughter, Princess Leonore, and is currently expecting her second child.
