For Taylor Dayne, life is like a song — and none was more fitting than her hit “I’ll Be Your Shelter” when she was looking for the ideal home for her kids.

After having Astaria and Levi via surrogate 12 years ago, the native New Yorker gave up her bi-coastal life to raise the pair in Encino, Calif.

But being away from the center of the music biz can put a crimp in anyone’s career. “I needed to be closer to LA,” Taylor tells Closer.

So the “Tell it To My Heart” singer found this stunning 3,800-square-foot home in Studio City last year. “This place is a happy, beautiful medium,” the 52-year-old gushes. “It’s close to the city, and I’ve grown accustomed to the traffic. I’m really happy here.”

The five-bedroom, four-and-half-bath spread is a bright and spacious gem. “I just love the openness,” Taylor admits.

Yet appropriately for the woman who’s sung “Heart of Stone” countless times, the first thing you notice are the stone floors, inlaid with pieces of marble, which stretch from the living room to the kitchen.

Otherwise, she’s designed spaces like her office with feng shui so she can relax after returning from acting or performing — this summer she’s touring and remixing a new greatest hits disc.

But her favorite place is what she dubs the “career room.” It features awards and treasured memorabilia, like her pics with blues legends Buddy Guy, Bo Diddley and BB King. “It’s a testament to a lot of the things I’ve achieved, and trust me, I forget all the time,” she laughs.

Taylor also shares she’s still searching for that special someone, a journey she hopes to chronicle in a “slice of life” reality series for which she’s just filmed a pilot. “I need a hubby and father for my kids. And I haven’t locked and loaded that yet,” she admits.
