Baby Shai is making his debut!

Dancing With the Stars couple Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd welcomed their first child together last month, and their baby son is making his official debut! Peta took to Instagram to show off the first photo of her adorable newborn.

“I now wholeheartedly understand the term ‘the best thing that ever happened to me,’” the 30-year-old wrote in the caption. “Little Shai, my heart.”

In the shot, her baby boy slept with his tiny little hand close to his mouth. Fans gushed over how cute Shai is in the comments on Instagram, and many of them pointed out how much he looks like his daddy — but Peta and Maksim don’t seem to think so. During their first interview since becoming parents on Good Morning America, the couple agreed that their son looks more like his momma.

Maksim and his fiancée are a fan favorite duo on DWTS, and even though Peta can’t stop gushing over Shai — which means “gift” in Hebrew — she’s using her platform as a celebrity to show the real side of motherhood. She posted a “real life” post-baby body selfie just eight days after giving birth, and she also showed the challenges that new moms go through with “leaking boobies” as they learn how to breastfeed. But she said she hopes that by sharing her experience, she helps other new mothers cope with the changes in their bodies.

“I left the hospital literally looking five months pregnant, and at first I was a little disappointed,” Peta told Good Morning America anchor Paula Faris. “I just realized I just did the most beautiful thing that a woman can do and produce in life and I need to just suck it up and move on, you know, not worry about the little things.”

“I wanted other women to know it’s okay and this is all normal, you don’t have to feel bad about your post-baby body,” she continued. “You just have to be patient and love yourself through this whole process.”
