TV queen Oprah Winfrey may have wanted “the biggest blowout party I can dream of” for her 60th b-day a couple of months ago, but the billionaire has since changed her tune.
Instead of the star-studded bash that everyone was expecting, Ms. Winfrey has planned a quiet dinner at her Santa Barbara home.
The TV mogul, who has been getting in shape for the occasion, even celebrated with a SoulCycle spin class a few days earlier!
Winfrey posted a video to her Instagram account which showed her with a group of women wearing t-shirts reading, “Happy Birthday Oprah.”
“I just had the best birthday experience ever,” exclaims the excited host as her 50 friends surround her.
And her actual b-day has gotten off to a lovely start! The star posted a photo of her next to a bouquet of long-stemmed roses.
The caption read, “Never seen a long stem rose this long. Birthday Roses from Cicely Tyson!”
The 80-year-old actress is a close friend of Winfrey’s.
The celeb also posted a photo with Maria Shriver, who she shared an iced tea birthday toast with:
“The Butler” star opted for a low-key celebration after the guest list reportedly grew too large.
The dinner will be a significant downgrade from her 50th birthday in 2004, which included a televised bash featuring John Travolta, Jay Leno, Tina Turner and Stevie Wonder, plus a separate black-tie dinner afterwards.
Though the entrepreneur has always embraced getting older, she admits that she needed a moment or two to grasp “the 6-0 number.”
“I've always said to people to own it. Even I, who has said to women all these years, own it, own it, own it, took a pause for that," Winfrey reveals.
