Nicole Kidman's father, Dr. Antony Kidman, has passed away unexpectedly after suffering a fall in Singapore, her rep confirms.
Dr. Kidman, a clinical psychologist at the Royal North Shore Hospital and director of health psychology at the University of Technology, Sydney, was reportedly visiting Nicole's sister, Antonia, and her six children in Singapore at the time of the accident. Further details regarding the fall have not been released.
"This is devastating news," a family friend told the Australian publication WHO. "Antony is incredibly close to both Nicole and Antonia. He was a rock to them all."
A frequent presence on Australian radio and television, Dr. Kidman was often interviewed on the topic of psychological health-related issues. He also researched the psycho-social implications experienced by those with breast cancer.
The Vice-Chancellor at the University of Technology, Sydney, released a statement following the tragic news. "It is with great sadness that we learn of Dr. Tony Kidman's sudden passing. During his 43 years...Tony has contributed greatly – as a colleague, as a researcher, and as a health practitioner. Tony will be missed by all at UTS."
After Nicole's 1967 birth in Honolulu, the family moved to Sydney in the '70s. Dr. Kidman and his wife just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past January.
