While appearing on the evening’s star-studded red carpet, the 49-year-old actress showed off her custom Armani Privé gown’s pretty, criss-cross strap detail on her back. But, halfway through the 89th Academy Awards, Nicole was spotted with her dress’s straps tied in a halter-style around her neck. So strange!

According to People, the mom-of-four’s changed dress may have been part of an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction. When Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel brought a group of unsuspecting Hollywood tourists — including the now-famous “Gary From Chicago” — through the Dolby Theater during the show, Nicole sweetly hugged several members of the group.

At that time, it appears one of Nicole’s dress straps ripped off from the side of her gown. Thankfully, the Cold Mountain star — or one of her quick-thinking assistants! — seemingly untethered her other strap and then tied the two around her neck.
