In a new campaign from Dove, five women and their daughters are asked to make two separate lists: one highlighting the things they like about their bodies and the other noting things they dislike.
On the moms' lists: "big" legs, "wonky" eyes and "bingo" arms, to name a few. And on the girls' lists? The exact same anxieties as their moms.
According to a press release from Dove, research has shown that having a positive, body-confident role model in one's life decreases concerns you may have about your own.
"We both don't like our nose, I think. I don't like my arms, and she doesn't like her arms either," one mom in the video noticed while comparing lists. "Well, I did say to her I don't like these things, these body parts of mine, and I think that's why she probably picked it up."
Another admits, "Self-worth and beauty, it is an echo. It can echo from me to them, and from them to others."
The campaign was launched in conjunction with Dove's Fifth Annual Self-Esteem Weekend (Oct. 9-12) at the United Nations.
As director of marketing Jennifer Bremner puts it, “Whether a mother, aunt, coach, teacher, or sister, all women can set a positive example for the next generation by expressing their own beauty with confidence."
