After weeks of rumors and speculation, it has been confirmed that the 42-year-old actor will play Count Olaf in Netflix‘s upcoming adaptation of Lemony Snicket‘s hit children’s books A Series of Unfortunate Events — and we can’t wait to see Neil Patrick in this fun new role!

In the highly-anticipated series, Neil Patrick’s character will make orphaned siblings Violet (to be played by Malina Weissman), Klaus (to be portrayed by Louis Hynes) and Sunny’s lives a total misery as they search to uncover the secret of their parents’ death.

The role of Count Olaf was previously played by Jim Carrey in the 2004 movie A Series of Unfortunate Events. Will Neil Patrick’s portrayal of the sinister character live up to Jim’s? I guess we will have to wait and see, since filming on the new show doesn’t begin until later this month!
