Daniel Gerson, a talented screenwriter who co-wrote Disney-Pixar's Monsters, Inc., has sadly died. He was 49-years-old.
Daniel passed away at his LA home on Saturday, Feb. 6 after battling brain cancer, his family wrote in his The New York Times obituary published earlier today.
"Daniel expressed a unique zest for life, its big and little moments, and brought that spirit to all of his loved ones. His sense of humor was exceptional... He was a fiercely loyal, loving and caring human being. The humanity, humor, and compassion that he brought to his writing, he brought to his family and friends in equal measure," his family wrote.

After beginning his career as a staff writer on the NBC show Something So Right, Daniel transitioned to film writing and co-wrote the screenplays for both animated features Monsters, Inc. (2001) and Monsters University (2013) with Disney-Pixar.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 20 years, Beau Stacom, their two children, Claire and Asher, his parents and his sister. Our thoughts are with Daniel's family during this difficult time.
