We're thrilled this story has a happy ending! When Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones announced their separation in August 2013, we were shocked and saddened to hear their 13-year-marriage was ending.
But now, less than a year later, the Hollywood power couple are back together and stronger than ever! Scroll down for a timeline of their reconciliation!
At the end of last summer, Michael and Catherine announced they were "taking a break" to "evaluate and work on their marriage" after nearly 13 years of marriage. We were hopeful for the couple, having weathered numerous hardships together, including Michael's battle with tongue cancer and Catherine's struggle with bipolar disorder.
Michael attended the Emmys alone, but when asked about his estranged wife he said, "Catherine is great. She is doing wonderful, talked to her today [and] just got a lovely note from her. I'm very hopeful that we're going to work things out...We're just taking a break."
Michael wears his wedding ring while promoting his new film, Last Vegas. He tells reporters, "Things are great. Onward and upward."
In an interview with GQ magazine, the actor gives a vague response when asked about the status of his relationship: "I hope to resolve my marriage in a positive fashion." Reports state the duo are planning to celebrate the holidays together with their two kids, Dylan and Carys.
The couple is spotted having lunch with their 10-year-old daughter in New York's Upper West Side. An eyewitness says they were “laughing and enjoying each other’s company."
The actor posts a photo on his Facebook account of him, Zeta-Jones, and the couple’s two children Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10, on top of a snow-topped mountain. The caption read, “Happy New Year from Quebec, Canada... where it is minus 10F.” When he comes back, Michael tells Closer, "Holidays were great. We have a little farm up in Canada where we go to visit in Quebec. A little colder than Rocky Mountain skiing, a couple of -15 days, but make them short."
In response to a question about Catherine, Michael answers, "Everything is good with the family."
Michael and Catherine bring their two children to Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2 in New Jersey. "Michael and Catherine looked really happy at the Super Bowl," an observer shared with Closer. "She looked gorgeous, better than I have seen her in a long time...I saw them lean in to whisper to one another a couple of times. They were all smiles. There was no sign of tension at all."
On April 15, the pair attend their first red carpet together in a year. They joke and smile during the opening of "The Library" at The Public Theater in New York City.
Michael tells ET correspondent Gayle King, "I think [Catherine and I are] always working [our marriage] out. Sometimes we spend more efforts with people that are strangers in terms of making an impression than the person that's closest to us."
The two-time Oscar winner admits he took his wife for granted. "First you have to admit that you made a mistake, then dealing with it is easy...Like a lovely orchid, or anything else that’s nurtured, marriage prospers and grows, but if it’s ignored, it withers."
The couple, including their two kids, take a vacation to Rome after stopping in Jerusalem last week. While sight-seeing, they looked like one big normal (and happy) family, which is what we like to see!
