For once, funnylady Melissa McCarthy wasn't joking.
"I was shocked and heartbroken when CBS cancelled Mike & Molly," she recently tweeted of her sitcom, which looks like it will leave the air after its upcoming 13-episode sixth season. “I would have shot this show for 50 more years. I’ll miss my second family.”
It’s a bittersweet time for the comic icon, 45, who’s celebrating a 50-pound weight loss, a burgeoning film career and a happy homelife with husband Ben Falcone, 42, and daughters Vivian, 8, and Georgette, 5, while mourning the loss of her beloved TV series.

“Melissa has always said that no matter how big a movie star she becomes, her heart was always with Mike & Molly, and she would never willingly walk away from it,” says a friend. (CBS axed the show after it earned solid but unspectacular ratings while bouncing around the schedule.)

While Melissa was always able to juggle her Mike & Molly shooting schedule with her star-making roles in movies like Bridesmaids and Spy, she could now have more time for big-screen work.
“There have been some film offers Melissa had to turn down, so now she’s free to pursue anything that comes along,” says an insider.
