Melanie Griffith Said She Was “So Hurt” When People Called out Her Plastic Surgery

Since her breakout role in the 1988 film Working Girl, actress Melanie Griffith has been a Hollywood staple, best known for her blonde hair and her trademark bright red lipstick. However, through the years her looks have undergone several transformations, including plastic surgery, which many fans have been vocal about.

“People started saying, ‘Oh my God, what has she done?!’ I was so hurt,” she said in a 2017 interview with Porter magazine about her cosmetic procedures. “I went to a different doctor and he started dissolving all of this s–t that this other woman doctor had put in. Hopefully, I look more normal now.”

That wasn’t the first time she had spoken up about negative backlash about her appearance. In 2012, she revealed that fans were leaving her mean comments on Twitter about her looks. “Most people are telling me I look horrible,” she said. “I don’t know if I look that great, [but] I work out a lot. I have a trainer that I [work with] four times a week, and I do hot yoga.”

Melanie has also been vocal about the pressures older women face in Hollywood. In 2002, she told an amusing anecdote on Larry King Live about how Revlon canceled her contract and moved her to the “age defying” line — at 34! “I was extremely flattered [about the line], [but] I mean, it’s age-defying at 34?” she said on the show. “Shouldn’t age-defying be at, like, 50 or 60?”

Despite her problems with the industry, after taking time off to raise her three children, Dakota Johnson, Alexander Bauer, and Stella Banderas, the 60-year-old is happy to be acting again. “Yeah, it’s kind of funny. People go, ‘Wow, you’re a really good actress.’ And I go, ‘Well, yeah. I worked forever. I know what I’m doing and I love what I do. So, thank you?'” she said in 2016. “People forget very easily in this business. They have a short memory.”

On top of acting, she’s working with ex-husband Antonio Banderas, whom she divorced in 2015, to make sure their kids are the top priority. “Even if we are divorced, she is my family and I will love her until the day I die,” Antonio told People in April 2018. “We have been in contact all these years and we managed to do a separation that is very elegant. Our kids are enjoying that and that is very important for both of us. Our kids are priority number one.” Keep doing you, Melanie!
