Exes Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp had quite the surprise reconciliation in NYC on Wednesday, March 1, leading many fans to wonder if the former couple may be getting back together.
"It was very amicable," eyewitness Stephanie Forman exclusively told Closer Weekly. "They were deep in conversation."

Meg, 55, and John, 65, previously dated from 2010 until August 2014. Following their split, the A-list pair briefly got back together in October 2014, but again called it quits in early 2015.

Interestingly, the "Jack & Diane" singer opened up about his relationship with Meg the very same day he was spotted out and about with the You've Got Mail star.
"Oh, women hate me," John told Howard Stern on the star's XM radio show on March 1. "I loved Meg Ryan. She hates me to death."

"I think it’s because I’m a child. I throw fits, I gripe, I complain. I’m moody. Every bad thing that a fella can be, that’s me," he continued.
"She just doesn’t want anything to do with me [anymore]," John added. "And I can’t blame her."

According to a source close to the former celeb couple, John's surprising interview about Meg may have actually been part of his strategy to get her back in his life.
"It was John’s way of laying the blame at his own feet [for their breakup], the friend told Closer. "He hopes Meg gets the message that he isn’t actually a child and he can accept responsibility."

After his split with Meg, John dated model Christie Brinkley, 63, for nearly a year from September 2015 until August 2016. Though the musician briefly moved on from his relationship with Meg, his friend revealed he's still not over the actress.
"He still says his time with Meg was some of the happiest of his life," the source said. "And he would love to be able to finesse the situation and once again find a place in her heart."
