Life is pretty sweet for Matthew McConaughey.

He won his first Oscar—the coveted Academy Award for Best Actor—for his portrayal of an AIDS patient in Dallas Buyers Club last year. Then he won critical acclaim for his role in the TV series, True Detective. He’s also the proud father of three adorable children, Levi, Vida and Livingston. Oh, and he’s married to stunning Brazilian model, Camila Alves.

In the new issue of GQ magazine, Matthew (who looks quite dapper on the cover, we might add!) dishes details on his life with Camila and why it took the actor some time to commit to marriage.

“I had to get to the point where I saw it as more than just the thing to do. I wanted to really want to. You know, I didn’t want it to be a destination; the fun is that we’re on the adventure together. And look, some of it had to do with her putting it on me. It took her going, ‘C’mon, Big Boy, Mr. Easygoing-We’ll-Get-to-It-When-We-Get-to-It. Either s–t or get off the pot.'”

Matthew met Camila in 2006 and the couple got engaged in December 2011. They exchanged ‘I Dos’ in a private ceremony in Austin, Texas (where they currently reside) in June 2012 in front of their two young children Levi and Vida. He and Camila welcomed their third child, a son named Livingston, that same year.

On being a father, Matthew added:

“It’s the one thing I’ve always wanted to be. Never is a man more of a man than when he is the father of a newborn. You know what’s important. I definitely got more selfish. And at the same time, I think I got more compassionate.”

The November issue of GQ will be available on newsstands in New York and Los Angeles on October 21 and nationally October 28.
