Matt Lauer And Al Roker Get Live Prostate Exams on TODAY

After announcing they would forgo razors for No-Shave November, Matt Lauer and Al Roker took men’s health awareness a step further on Thursday by getting their prostrates checked…ON LIVE TV!

The co-hosts of "TODAY" wanted to promote getting regular prostrate exams so Matt and Al decided to get personal by having their own done on-air. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men, after skin cancer and it is also the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths.

The exams took about 35 seconds for each of the anchors and afterwards, Al said the exam was “not comfortable…but it’s certainly, obviously do-able.” Dr. David Samadi, who performed the exams, said Al’s prostate was “a little enlarged, but it's not terrible." Matt had no abnormalities.

"It doesn't hurt at all,” said Matt. “Is it the best 34 seconds of your life? Probably not. But if in 34 seconds a (doctor) can detect something that might save your life, what are we talking about?"

In terms of the embarrassment factor, Matt also shared some good advice for any shy guys out there. “Find a doctor you’re comfortable with,” he said.

Former co-host Meredith Vieira sent her best wishes to the pair this morning, and made sure to include a little bit of humor to rib on her past colleagues.
