It has been nearly a week since rock legend Lou Reed passed away last Sunday. And Lou's wife of 5 years has finally spoken out about her late husband through a written obituary in the couple's local newspaper.

"Last week I promised Lou to get him out of the hospital and come home to Springs, [N.Y.]. And we made it!" wrote Laurie, 66, in The East Hampton Star.

"Lou was a tai chi master and spent his last days here being happy and dazzled by the beauty and power and softness of nature," she said. "He died on Sunday morning looking at the trees and doing the famous 21 form of tai chi with just his musician hands moving through the air."

As the primary songwriter for the rock group The Velvet Underground, Lou's music impacted millions and the band had quite a cult following.

"I know his songs of the pain and beauty in the world will fill many people with the incredible joy he felt for life," Laurie writes. "Long live the beauty that comes down and through and onto all of us."

She ended the obituary with "his loving wife and eternal friend." Lou was 71 when he died and his cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
