Competition isn’t easy, especially for Lindsey Stirling, who’s on Dancing With the Stars and struggling to stay at a healthy weight. The 31-year-old professional violinist is one of the frontrunners on the show, but she recently revealed that she has to stay proactive about her diet after beating anorexia years ago.

“I’m the best shape I’ve ever been in,” she explained after Disney Night on the ABC reality dance competition. “I have great abs right now — I have a six-pack!”

But, she is taking steps to make sure that her body has enough nutrients to compete every week. “I’m not used to eating this much, but I lost eight pounds in the first two or three weeks, so now I’m on a new regimen. I’m eating steaks all the time, still trying to be really healthy but just trying to get calories, eating full peanut butter scoops.”

Lindsey is preparing to go back on tour after she finishes the show. She admitted that she’s in even better shape now then she was after her last tour. “That frame — I’m telling you, it takes a good core,” she continued. “I went straight off the [summer] tour into the show and thought I had an advantage because I was in great shape, but this show is kicking my butt.”

She first realized she needed help when she was 23 years old and depressed. After that, she committed herself to her recovery and hasn’t looked back. “I’d become miserable and self-absorbed about my body. That’s when it hit me that I had a problem,” she explained. “Once I admitted that to myself, I was able to start the process of change.” We hope Lindsey continues to take care of her body and mind. And we’re rooting for her on the show!
