Though he's been nominated five times before, Leonardo DiCaprio admits his recent Best Actor Oscar nomination for his role in The Revenant, "feels great."
"It does feel great especially when you worked on something for this long a period of time," the 41-year-old actor said earlier today at the movie's London premiere. "This was, I keep saying to people, this was almost like going on a grand voyage together with a crew. It was unlike any other filmmaking experience I've had and to have so many different departments recognized the way they were, especially my friend Tom Hardy, my make-up artist that I've worked with for — what is it? — almost 23 years now, to see all their efforts and work connecting with the Academy and our community, it does feel great."

In the flick — which hit theaters on Jan. 8 — Leo portrays legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass as he fights his way to survive through uncharted wilderness after being severely injured and left for dead by his hunting team.

"You know, it's not often that films like this even get made, but the fact that it's gotten recognized means we're going to get to do more like it, so that's encouraging," he added to E! News.

Leonardo was recently awarded the Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama Golden Globe for his role, with The Revenant also taking home the Best Picture, Drama honor that night. The movie leads the Oscar nominations with 12 nods, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Tom Hardy and Best Director for Alejandro Iñárritu.

Leo previously received Oscar nominations for his roles in 1993's What's Eating Gilbert Grape, 2005's The Aviator, 2007's Blood Diamond and 2014's The Wolf of Wall Street. He earned an additional nomination for serving as a producer on The Wolf of Wall Street.
