Leah Remini Claims Church of Scientology Wanted Her ‘King of Queens’ Co-Star Kevin James to Join

That’s enough to potentially ruin a friendship. Leah Remini admitted in a new interview that when she belonged to the church of Scientology, they bugged her to get her King of Queens co-star Kevin James to join.

“They always tried to get me to, [asking] ‘Why is he not in? Why have you not promoted it to him?’ I was like, ‘Because he’s Catholic. He doesn’t want anything to do with it,'” the 47-year-old told People, even though the church denies her claims. “They let it go after a while, but usually you’d be expected to recruit, especially with somebody you work with for nine years.”

Leah famously left Scientology back in 2013 after more than 30 years of practicing the religion. She shared that Kevin — the two portrayed husband and wife Doug and Carrie Heffernan on King of Queens from 1998 until 2007 — was so supportive of her decision. “He reached out to me and said, ‘I’m so proud of you; if you need anything, I’m here,'” Leah said.

The mom-of-one now has her own show, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, which is in its second season. On top of that, she’s set to co-star with Kevin again on his new show, Kevin Can Wait. She previously guest-starred in some episodes during Season 1.

“I got a call: ‘Do you want to do some more episodes?’ I said, ‘Yeah, of course, anything,'” Leah began. “They said, ‘Okay, so you’re going to be doing all the episodes.’ I was like, ‘What?! For Kevin, anything.” We can’t wait to see the TV duo back in action during the Season 2 premiere of Kevin Can Wait come Monday, Sept. 25!
