Laurie Hernandez is sadly mourning the loss of her grandmother.
On last night's new Dancing With the Stars episode, the 16-year-old Olympian revealed her beloved grandma, Brunilda Hernandez, recently passed away after battling Alzheimer's disease.

Just days before her death, Laurie visited her grandmother during a trip home between DWTS rehearsals. "I’m extremely close with my grandma," she told the cameras.

"When you come back, you show [the Mirrorball Trophy] to me. 'Look what I win!'" Hernandez told her granddaughter during their get together. "I’m very, very, very proud. Very, very proud of her." The day after Laurie's visit, her grandmother passed.

Surprisingly, the gymnast returned to the ballroom on Monday, Nov. 14 to perform an emotional Foxtrot with her pro partner, Val Chmerkovskiy. As the dance ended, Laurie burst into tears but was quickly consoled by her DWTS family.
