It’s been just more than two years since Kathie Lee Gifford’s beloved husband, former New York Giants football player Frank Gifford, died at age 84 in August 2015. And now, according to a source close to the Today star, Kathie Lee may be ready to find love again and begin dating.
"Kathie Lee is looking for companionship, someone to laugh with and learn from. She doesn’t want to date a lot of different men," the insider recently revealed to Closer Weekly in an exclusive interview. Unfortunately, the 64-year-old TV star is finding the modern ways of dating to be quite daunting thus far. "[She's worried she might be] considered old-fashioned if she actually wanted to speak to a date on the telephone," the source said. "[Plus], a lot of men want to date younger women and so it has been more challenging than she expected."

Lucky for Kathie Lee, members of her close family have all expressed their support of her dating again following Frank's passing. "[Her kids, Cody and Cassidy], have given their blessing for her to date," the insider said. "[And Frank] had given her his blessing to find love again before he died. He would absolutely not want her to be alone." Furthermore, Kathie Lee's late mother, Joan Epstein — who sadly passed away at age 87 on Tuesday, Sept. 12 — recently asked her famous daughter about her thoughts on dating today. "She said, 'Would you be open to love again?'" KLG recalled during a new interview for Prevention magazine. "I said, 'Mom, I’m open to anything the Lord has for me at this point in my life.'"
"Kathie Lee would regale her mom with stories about what it was like to be back out in the world again," the source told Closer of their sweet mother-daughter relationship. "Joan offered loving and poignant advice, encouraging her to have fun getting to know a new man." During her chat with Prevention — which was conducted before Joan’s death — Kathie Lee admitted she deeply cherished her mother's optimistic outlook on life.

"I call her every morning at 9 a.m., and I get her laughing within about 30 seconds. We mostly talk about her breakfast, which she lives for at this point. It’s always, always about sausage. I said, 'Mom, that’s the way you spell joy, S-A-U-S-A-G-E,'" she joked. "One day she surprised me: She had oatmeal and some fruit. I said, 'Mom, that’s unbelievable.' She said, 'Well, it’s important to stay healthy while you’re dying.' That’s my mom."
