When Kate Winslet first revealed back in December she had named her third child Bear Blaze, the unconventional choice definitely rose a few eyebrows.
But the 38-year-old, who just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, finally explains the meaning behind her son's unique name.
"We were thinking about names during the pregnancy…when I was pregnant with Mia and when I was pregnant with Joe, I didn't name them before they came out because I always felt like I just have to see them and see who they're going to be," Winslet tells Ellen DeGeneres about the process of naming her first child with third husband Ned Rocknroll.
"But of course, this time around there's Mia and Joe and the whole pregnancy is about what are we gonna call the baby. So it was really lovely actually they were very much included," explains the star, who had her two elder children with ex-husbands Jim Threapleton and Sam Mendes.
"We settled on Bear quite early on," she shares. "A friend of mine when I was younger was nicknamed Bear and I just had always really loved it."
And just as her 14-week-old's first name carries an emotional tie, so does the baby's middle name, Blaze.
"My husband and I met in a house fire, basically," the Oscar winner describes of meeting Rocknroll, the nephew of Virgin Music mogul Richard Branson. The two were both visitors on Branson's Necker Island when a fire broke out at his vacation home.
"The house burned down and we survived. So we wanted something of the fire and so Blaze was the name that we came up with," says Winslet.
