This would be so sad! Rumors have again been swirling that Kate Middleton‘s parents may, unfortunately, be headed for a divorce. According to a recent report, Carole and Michael Middleton‘s marriage has been a bit strained since their eldest daughter married into the royal family and they could now be on the verge of a $50 million split.

If the story is true — we’re guessing it’s probably a bit unfounded at this time — quite a lot would be at stake in a Carole and Michael divorce. First, the couple would likely have to split their vast fortune and only one person would end up with the family’s lavish Bucklebury, England mansion. The property is estimated to be worth around $6.2 million, sits on 18-acres, and includes an impressive seven bedrooms. Carole, 62, and Michael, 68, bought the estate back in 2012 after allegedly selling their first Bucklebury home for $1.9 million.

The duo also run their own super-successful party decor business, Party Pieces, which Carole established back in 1987. The company — which specializes in mail order party supplies and decorations — is now worth an estimated $40 million dollars. Michael previously worked as a British Airways flight attendant and later as a flight dispatcher. Kate’s mom was similarly working as a flight attendant in the 1970s when the two first met. The couple tied the knot in 1980 and the two later quit their jobs to focus on Party Pieces full-time.

Not only would Carole and Michael’s eldest child, Kate, 35, be crushed if her parents decided to divorce, but their two younger kids — daughter Pippa Middleton, 34, and son James Middleton, 30 — would be affected too. According to several outlets, the Middletons have very strong relationships with all three of their children, but especially with Kate, her husband, Prince William, and their two little ones, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. In fact, Carole is a very hands-on grandmother to George, 4, and Charlotte, 2, and often visits them at Kensington Palace. When Kate recently announced her third pregnancy, Carole too rushed to her daughter’s side as she again battles hyperemesis gravidarum.
