Famed singer and songwriter Joe Cocker has died from lung cancer in Crawford, Colo., his agent confirmed on Monday, Dec. 22. He was 70-years-old.
With the announcement, agent Barrie Marshall said Joe was "simply unique" and "it will be impossible to fill the space he leaves in our hearts."
"He was without the doubt the greatest rock/soul voice ever to come out of Britain — and remained the same man throughout his life," Marshall continued. "[He was] hugely talented, a true star, but a kind and humble man who loved to perform. Anyone who ever saw him live will never forget him."

Known for his gritty voice, Joe began his singing career performing in pubs across his native England in the 1960s. He later rose to stardom when his cover of 'With A Little Help from My Friends,' by 'The Beatles' reached No. 1 in the UK in 1968.
Joe — who is also well known for his 1975 hit, 'You Are So Beautiful' — won several notable awards throughout his more than 40-year career. In 1983, he won both a Grammy and an Oscar for 'Up Where We Belong,' his duet with Jennifer Warnes. The song appeared in the popular film 'An Officer and a Gentleman.'
Following his death, 'Beatles' stars Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were among the first of many celebrities to share tributes to their late friend.

"It’s really sad to hear about Joe’s passing. He was a lovely northern lad who I loved a lot and like many people I loved his singing," Paul, 72, said in a statement. "He was a great guy, a lovely guy who brought so much to the world and we’ll all miss him."
