After her frightening medical emergency yesterday morning, Joan Rivers is said to be in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
The 81-year-old was admitted after she stopped breathing during a vocal chord procedure at a Manhattan clinic. Though her condition was originally listed as critical, she has since been upgraded and various reports claim she has been placed in a medically induced coma.
After arriving at her mother's side on Thursday evening, Melissa Rivers issued the following statement to media outlets:
"I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother. She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers."
The comedian, who's known for her gravelly voice, had allegedly suffered some strain on her vocal chords in recent weeks, presenting a need for surgery. One of her live shows, scheduled for today in Red Bank, N.J., has been postponed.
