Melissa Rivers is paying tribute to her late mother, Joan Rivers, in a very special way.

The 49-year-old star is writing a new book about Joan. “The working title is The Joan Rivers Scrapbook,” Melissa told Radar Online, adding the book is set to be published in September 2017.

“We had this tremendous archive so we decided to create a photographic journey through the 50 years of my mom’s career,” Melissa continued. “And it’s really a time capsule of pop culture in each of those decades.”

Joan sadly passed away at age 81 in September 2014. Days earlier, the late Fashion Police star stopped breathing while undergoing a routine surgery on her vocal cords. The late comedienne was then rushed to a nearby hospital and placed in a medically induced coma following the procedure. She died one week later.

“It’s been pretty, pretty emotional,” Melissa said of writing the book. “It’s still hard for [my son, Cooper], to look back at photos.”

“It hits you in different ways but after a while you’re kinda like, ‘Get the picture already!'” she continued. “It’s been fun. It’s been a challenge but I’m really excited about it because it’s just a different way to chronicle the history of the last five decades from a strong woman’s point of view.”

In a previous interview, Melissa hilariously revealed Joan’s only grandchild, 16-year-old Cooper, sometimes uses “Grandma guilt” following her death to get things that he wants.

“I know I have an easy [teenager]… and I am so proud of how far [Cooper] has come in a year-and-a-half because he was so close with my mother but that guilt of him losing my mother, with me, is wearing thin. Because now every time he wants something, it goes into, ‘Well grandma…'” Melissa joked.
