It's so hard to say goodbye, but viewers did just that to Joan Rivers last night.
The late comedienne — who passed away at age 81 in September 2014 — returned to The Celebrity Apprentice during last night's new episode in what was likely the final pre-recorded TV appearance Joan made before her death.
Unlike her previous guest star roles on the popular reality competition, Joan's normally exuberant personality was noticeably subdued as she offered the remaining contestants serious advice on how to succeed at their latest business challenge.

During the series' Jan. 19 episode, host Donald Trump, 68, affectionately praised the late comedienne's iconic role in showbiz.
“With me today is the legendary Joan Rivers, and her advice means a lot,” he told the show's participants of Joan, who won the competition in 2009.

"It is so amazing to have Joan Rivers with us. She was such a great champion and remains a great champion," Donald added.
Before the Jan. 19 episode aired, Melissa Rivers, 47, shared her gratitude toward the businessman and his two children, Ivanka, 33, and Donald Jr., 37 — who serve as boardroom judges on the show — for having her late mother on the reality program.
"@realDonaldTrump @IvankaTrump @DonaldJTrumpJr Thank you for all of your kindness and support. My mother loved you all," she wrote on Twitter.
