Joan Rivers has reportedly left a $150 million fortune to her only child Melissa as well as her two pet dogs.
Due to her successful partnership with home shopping network QVC, E!'s Fashion Police and a consistent stream of stand-up dates, the 81-year-old entertainer is believed to have earned around $40 million in the last year alone.
According to Joan's goddaughter Tracie Hotchner, the comedienne left clear instructions regarding the care of her rescue dogs, Samantha and Teegan, who lived at her Upper East Side apartment in New York.
Joan's close friend Cindy Adams recently revealed to the Daily Mail that the beloved pets were at Manhattan's Mount Sinai hospital with the animal advocate during her final days.
In a blog post, Tracie mentioned that her godmother "called her doggies her best friends and in later years said they were better companions than a husband because 'They didn’t leave the seat up!'"
She wrote, "It struck me that in our world today, dogs have become accepted as such essential family members that providing for them well in life, and after death, is considered quite normal...they meant so much to her because with her hectic lifestyle of travel and performances, her pooches were her touchstone to normalcy and genuine affection."
Known for her lavish lifestyle, Joan once allowed the Wall Street Journal into her over-the-top home, where her furry friends ruled the roost. "Only when you love dogs very much do you let them sit on $300-per-yard French fabric," she joked.
With an estimated fortune in the one hundred millions, Melissa could see a lot more dough if she elects to sell her mother's swanky apartment. Bought under the her husband's family trust, Joan first put the home on the market in 2009 with plans to move to the West Coast to be closer to her daughter and grandson, Cooper.
Given similar apartments in her area, the Daily Mail estimates it could go for as much as $35 million.
