After Joan Lunden was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), an aggressive form of the disease, the former Good Morning America host went into “warrior mode,” doing her best to stay positive despite the struggles that lay ahead.

Now, a close family friend shares Joan has vowed to “take this as an opportunity to try and inspire others to protect their health.”

The friend also reveals the journalist has shaved her head following a second chemotherapy treatment on June 26.

“She was expected to start losing her hair in the coming week. So she took matters into her own hands and shaved her head. She wanted to do it on her own terms, and she looks stunning.”

When Joan first announced her diagnosis on GMA, she emphasized “just how important it is to have a support system.”

The 63-year-old has been able to rely on husband of 14 years, Jeff Konigsberg, and her seven children, one of whom is expecting a baby.

And the friend tells People magazine the life-long health advocate has a whole community of women to lean on as well.

“[Joan said], ‘I’m having 200 women at my health and wellness retreat in August, and I have to be there,'” the insider reveals.

With her fighting spirit, we have no doubt Joan will make it to the retreat.
