Jerry Seinfeld Couldn’t Get Enough of His “Consolation Puppy” Prize at the Grammys

This is just the cutest thing! During the 2018 Grammys on Sunday, Jan. 28, host James Corden hilariously handed out “consolation puppies” to the four nominees who lost to Dave Chappelle in the Best Comedy Album category. “I should say to all the nominees that who are not going home with a Grammy — I don’t want anyone to be upset tonight so the good news is nobody goes home empty handed because all night we will be handing out consolation puppies. So if you didn’t get a Grammy, you get a puppy,” James told the crowd.

Then, the night’s emcee handed comedian Jerry Seinfeld and his wife, Jessica Seinfeld, the most adorable puppy ever — and the Seinfeld star could not contain his excitement! “I should tell you, Jerry, be careful, that’s Roxy, she’s a biter,” James said.

The precious pooches were also jokingly given to Best Comedy Album nominees Sarah Silverman and Jim Gaffigan. “And then who got Ruby? I think that was Jim Gaffigan. She isn’t toilet trained. Just so you know,” James joked. Sadly, one of the night’s presenters, Anna Kendrick, didn’t get a puppy and later lamented about the moment on Twitter! “One of the consolation puppies just got walked past me so the night is pretty much downhill from here. #GRAMMYs,” she tweeted.

Many other Grammys-watchers took to Twitter to gush about the cute puppy consolation prizes. “I’m pretty sure ‘consolation puppies’ should be mandatory for all disappointing situations in life. #Grammys,” one person wrote with another similarly adding, “OMG CONSOLATION PUPPIES! Best Grammy moment in history.”

However, some people were not supportive of James’ lighthearted consolation puppies hosting skit. According to The Evening Standard, animal rights activists slammed James during the show over concerns for the dogs’ welfare. “Very disappointed that the #GRAMMYs chose to gift puppies as a joke. Animals are not toys. #AdoptDontBuy,” animal rights charity PETA tweeted during the program. We’re hopeful the puppies had a fun night out and were safely returned home!
