On Friday, Dec. 15, First Daughter Ivanka Trump responded to the news confirming Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s wedding date by Tweeting the engaged couple her congratulations. Unfortunately for Ivanka though, Twitter was having none of it, responding with a barrage of snarky replies, ranging from digs at her sincerity to calling her out for “shamelessly” trying to get an invite to what will be the biggest wedding of 2018.

Prince Harry’s friendship with the Obamas was also highlighted as a probable impediment to the Trumps getting on the invite list. There were also plenty of comparisons between her family and the royal family, particularly when it came to the “extraordinary things” the couple will do. The royal family has refused to comment on whether or not the Trumps will be invited, but it wouldn’t be surprising (or necessarily personal) if they aren’t — the Obama’s weren’t invited to the Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding back in 2011 amidst security concerns, too.

Currently, Prince Harry has only met one member of the Trump family — First Lady Melania Trump, who sat next to him at the Invictus Games earlier this year. In the past, President Donald Trump caused outrage by saying he would have slept with Princess Diana while discussing her in 2000 with radio host Howard Stern — just three years after her tragic death.

Meghan’s relationship to the first family is more complicated — she’s previously criticized the President for being “misogynistic,” but also praised Ivanka for being “staggeringly beautiful, no question, but so incredibly savvy and intelligent,” on her now defunct lifestyle blog The Tig in 2014.
