Hugh Jackman Gives Fans Skin Cancer Update: “Everything Is Fine”

Phew!

Hugh Jackman gave fans an update on his recent skin cancer treatment during his appearance on Live! Thursday, March 2 — and thankfully revealed everything is going well.

"All good, almost completely healed," the Wolverine star revealed to Kelly Ripa and guest-host Jerry O'Connell. "It’s a basal cell carcinoma, everything’s fine. It is skin cancer but the least dangerous form of it. So it’s just something I have to get out after being an Aussie with English parents, growing up in Australia, it’s sort of the new normal for me."

"But everything’s fine," he added. "People have been so lovely, thank you."

Hugh took to Instagram in mid-February to reveal he had been treated for cancer yet again by posting a photo of his bandaged nose.

"Another basal cell carcinoma. Thanks to frequent body checks and amazing doctors, all is well. Looks worse with the dressing on than off. I swear! #WearSunscreen," he captioned the pic at the time.

The father-of-two was first diagnosed with skin cancer in November 2013 when his makeup artist pointed out a worrisome spot on his face and urged him to have it checked out by a doctor. Since then, Hugh has battled three more bouts of skin cancer — on his nose in May and October 2014 and recently on his shoulder — and had surgery to remove cancerous skin cells after each diagnosis.

During Live!, the actor gave viewers some very helpful advice. "So here’s the thing: One sunburn, you’re susceptible to cancer. One. And all of this is 25, 30 years after the doctor told me," he said. "Our rule, as kids, growing up, was you get burned and peel two or three times, then you’re set."
