A woman who spent six months in a state-run psychiatric facility after being arrested for charging at actor Hugh Jackman with an electric shaver is now fit to stand trial, according to a Manhattan judge.
Katherine Thurston, who was previously deemed too mentally ill to be tried, appeared briefly in court today with her attorney Liz Beal.
According to reports, the case has been adjourned to February due to a possible plea deal. The judge set bail at $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash.
Thurston had her hair tied back in a neat ponytail and wore an oversized black jacket to court, an improvement over her previous visits in which she appeared disheveled.
She is accused of following the “Les Misérables” star to Gotham Gym in Greenwich Village last April and demanding to know if he would wed her. Thurston then allegedly snuck inside and charged at Jackman with an electric shaver.
As police handcuffed her, the 46-year-old reportedly said, “I want to marry him. It’s not against the law to have two wives.”
The California resident has a history of hounding celebrities, according to her ex-mother-in-law, Joan Washburn.
“When she was in New York, she had done some stalking,” Washburn told the Daily News at the time of her arrest. “She’s had issues for a long time. I believe they diagnosed her as bipolar.”
Thurston split from Washburn’s son roughly 15 years ago and since 2003, she has been arrested at least 11 times in California for crimes involving arson, trespassing, and possession of stolen property.
