Wait, how did Chris Kattan break his neck?!

During the Dancing With the Stars Season 24 premiere on Monday, March 20, SNL star Chris surprisingly revealed he previously suffered a scary and debilitating neck injury.

"I broke my neck and I had four surgeries regarding that the last 20 years basically. One in my back, one through the throat… I had to be careful for a really long time," the 46-year-old actor told reporters after the show.

Though Chris, unfortunately, didn't provide many details on his past debilitating injury during the first DWTS episode, he did reveal he broke his neck during a "stunt thing."

"I can’t get into it," he added, according to People.

"When you have surgery, you’re out of commission for months. It’s embarrassing. You can't go out in public," Chris said. The comedian has made headlines in the past for publically exhibiting erratic behavior, which he now attributes to the painkillers he was taking following his neck surgeries.

Chris — who is partnered with pro dancer Witney Carson on DWTS — is now happy to be in good health and performing on the hit reality competition. "They asked me [to be on the show] twice," he said. "At that time I wasn’t ready for it yet, physically. I had to be at the right level of health and spirit and all that."

"[Now] it’s perfect timing," he continued. "I wouldn’t have been able to do this 5 or 10 years ago."

On the second DWTS episode of the season, Chris revealed more about his past injury. "Fourteen years ago, I broke my neck while I was working and I've had four surgeries since then. Part of what I used to do was physical comedy, but now I can't," Chris said in his rehearsal footage. "It's really sad when somebody says, 'I miss the old Chris.' That really sucks."

"It's crazy that somebody can have that happen to them and then be brave enough to try something like this," Chris's partner Witney said while holding back tears.

"The reason why I'm doing this competition now is because I can where years before I just couldn't physically do it. It's a comeback really," Chris added. "I may not be the best dancer, but I'm just going to go out there and do what I love doing and have a blast."

Sadly, Chris and Witney were eliminated after the Monday, March 27 show. "[Witney] was amazing, she was an amazing inspiration and I couldn't have done this without her. I wish that my surgery and all that was noted before [now], but it wasn't and that's OK. But I had an incredible time, an incredible time," the comedian said. We'll miss seeing you dance, Chris!
