Seven years after Heath Ledger's tragic death, the late actor's father, Kim Ledger, continues to honor his beloved son.
"He was our beautiful son whom we are so, so proud of, and always will be," Kim said of Heath during an interview on the Australian morning show Sunrise on Friday, Aug. 28.
"He was taken away from us so suddenly. All that talent and energy, and the great things he did pale in significance when someone is no longer here," Kim continued.

Heath sadly passed away at age 28 in January 2008 from an accidental drug overdose. At the time of his death, the Brokeback Mountain star's daughter, Matilda Rose, 9 — whose mother is actress Michelle Williams — was just two-years-old.

In 2009, the late actor was honored with a posthumous Oscar for his performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight, which was released six months after Heath's death. The Ledger family accepted the award on his behalf. "Everyone admired Heath for his work, he was very dedicated to every project he did," Kim added of his son.
