TV NewsUpcoming ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Spin-Off Gets a Title (Finally) — Find out Here!

Shonda Rhimes, the producer behind Grey’s Anatomy, has created another show to add to her “Shondaland,” the name given to all of the successful shows Shonda has been involved with over the years.

This time she has created a spin-off from the much-loved medical drama, which is currently in its 14th season. Scroll down to learn everything we know about the upcoming spin-off!

What is the title of the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off?

The new ABC series — which will be 10 episodes long — has officially been named Station 19. Many of the upcoming show’s cast and producers announced the exciting news via social media on Thursday, Jan. 25. What do you think of the new title?

When does the new Grey’s Anatomy spin-off start?

The spin-off will officially air on Thursday, March 22 — so soon! Jason George admitted to Variety in November, “We’ve been training and we’ve been shooting!”

Where will the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off take place?

It will be in the same universe as the characters from Grey’s (Seattle), but it won’t actually feature any doctors. Instead, it will focus on a local firehouse! So cool.

Who is in the cast of the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off?

Many of the new characters will be introduced to audiences in a Grey’s episode before they are swiftly moved into their very own show. Jason — aka Dr. Ben Warren — confirmed the news that he’d be on the spin-off in September, but fans are just dying to know what this will mean for his marriage to Dr. Miranda Bailey (played by Chandra Wilson).

It was also previously reported that Jaina Lee Ortiz will be on the spin-off! She confirmed the news on Instagram over the summer. “Humbled, Honored, Grateful. ?? Cannot wait to tell this story and make these fierce women proud. #Shondaland #ShondaIsMyIcon #SheIsAlsoTheBeyonceOfTV,” she wrote at the time.

The Hollywood Reporter has also reported some other cast member names. According to the news outlet, we will also see Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre, Jay Hayden, Barrett Doss, and Alberto Frezza on the spin-off. ABC has also confirmed that Grey Damon and Miguel Sandoval will be on.

Jason gushed about the cast to Variety. “I was out with two of the guys last night, hanging out. They’re a fantastic cast I think people are going to fall in love with. Jaina Ortiz is a blast. We got Oak [Onaodowan] from Hamilton For any of the Hamilton fans out there – he was Hercules Mulligan and Madison in that, he said. “You’ll recognize Jay Hayden from The Catch.”

Jason added, “The cast is a pretty spectacular group of people. We got Paris Barclay who’s directing it — the former president of the DGA — so the bona fides are there! There’s [showrunner] Stacy McKee, who wrote Grey for several seasons, and has been around from Grey’s since Season One. If you love Grey’s, you will dig the spin-off.”

Is this the first Grey’s Anatomy spin-off?

Nope, this isn’t the first time that a Grey’s Anatomy spin-off has been undertaken. Kate Walsh starred as Addison Montgomery, the estranged wife of Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), before she was moved off onto her own show, Private Practice. The series followed Addison’s relocation from Seattle to LA and it ran from 2007 to 2013.

Will Shonda Rhimes be involved in the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off?

The new spin-off series will see Shonda as a producer, whilst former Grey’s writer Stacy McKee has stepped in as show-runner.

What can we expect from the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off?

President of ABC Channing Dungey has lauded Shonda’s upcoming series, which is sure to be a hit. “No one can interweave the jeopardy in a firefighter’s face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spin-off,” she said.

Jason also gushed about the upcoming show. “I think the fun thing about firefight spin-off is that firefighters are on for 24-hour shifts and they become like a family. They eat together, they’re sleeping there – it’s like the Grey’s family, except for when the Grey’s family makes mistakes, a patient dies,” he said. “When these guys make mistakes your partner dies, your friend dies, your lover, whatever, dies. That’s an interesting new level and new twist to the work-family kind of thing.”
