‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13 Winter Premiere Delayed for Donald Trump TV Special

Grey’s Anatomy fans, you’ll have to wait!

The Season 13 winter premiere of the long-running show has been rescheduled from Thursday, Jan. 19 until Thursday, Jan. 26 due to a pre-inauguration 20/20 special about President-elect Donald Trump airing on ABC.

Grey’s isn’t the only show affected by the hour-long special about the future POTUS. The series’ TGIT pals, How to Get Away With Murder and Scandal, will also be bumped until the following week in an effort to air new episodes of all three of Shonda Rhimes‘s highly-anticipated shows on the same night.

America’s First Family: The Trumps Go to Washington will hit the small screen at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, following reruns of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively.

Fans have anxiously been waiting for the return of the hit medical drama after a myriad of surprise happenings during the first part of this season.

Patrick Dempsey — aka Dr. McDreamy, who was tragically killed off in Season 11 — made a surprise appearance in one of the show’s November episodes. Sadly, Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, was only imagining Derek’s return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital as a way to keep her going during a difficult surgery.

In a previous interview, Ellen revealed her age is what has kept her starring on the hit series since 2005. “My decision to stay on Grey’s was based solely on age,” the 47-year-old actress said. “At 33, I was wise enough to know my clock was already ticking in Hollywood.”

“[If I’d started earlier], I probably would have done my time, then gone out to search for other things. [But I] was definitely aware of how challenging it would be to find other roles in my late 30s and early 40s,” Ellen continued.

The star of the popular show recently welcomed her third child, a baby son named Eli, with her husband, Chris Ivery, her rep confirmed on Dec. 29.
