This was definitely one of our ‘favorite things’ on Twitter last night! Though their 1965 film came after “The Sound of Music” stage musical, many will always declare Kym Karath and Charmian Carr the “original” Gretl and Liesl von Trapp. And the duo was on hand to watch a new generation take a crack at their legendary roles in last night’s “The Sound of Music LIVE!” on NBC.

Karath not only tweeted throughout the 3-hour production but also shared a picture of her and her SOM “sibling” Carr watching together! So how did the actress like the new adaptation of the 1959 stage version? She admitted to mixed feelings.

“Mystified & disappointed so far by SOM special,” Karath wrote early on. “So far only happy with Stephen Moyer (Captain von Trapp).” The actress even tweeted, “Must admit some scenes are actually painful to watch.”

Though Karath wasn’t a fan of Carrie Underwood in the lead role, she did love Moyer, Laura Benanti (who played Baroness Schrader) and Christian Borle (who played Max Detwiler) in their roles, all of whom have more acting experience than Underwood.

Debbie Turner, who played Marta in the film, also tweeted throughout the live show, but had more favorable things to say about Underwood’s performance. “Bravo! To #carrieunderwood,” wrote Turner, “You were a darling!”
