David Margulies, an actor best known for his role as the Mayor of New York in the Ghostbusters movies, has sadly died. He was 78-years-old.

In a statement to Deadline, the star’s longtime agent, Mary Harden, confirmed David passed away in NYC on Monday, Jan. 11 after battling an undisclosed illness.

David’s other acting credits include Tony Soprano’s lawyer Neil Mink on The Sopranos and a doctor in the 1994 movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. He also appeared on Broadway in shows Comedians, Brighton Beach Memoirs and Angels In America, among others. Prior to his death, the veteran actor wrapped filming on two upcoming projects: the drama License Plates and the TV movie Madoff.

He is survived by his partner, Lois Smith, children from a previous marriage and a grandson.
