Fans are over the moon that Trading Spaces is returning to the small screen — and in an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, TLC personality Genevieve Gorder discussed what it's like being back in the franchise. The mother-of-one admitted it was "tearful and powerful" to reunite with her own co-stars, and that some of them she "hadn’t seen in over 12 years!"
"The personalities and chemistry are all the same — we’re just much better designers! The biggest difference since we first started Trading Spaces is the tech landscape. We didn’t have smartphones, Pinterest, Amazon or GPS! Access to affordable has changed immensely, and so has expectation. We helped train a lot of design enthusiasts who are ready for next," she shared, adding that "it was such a surprise and delight to do it again."
However, there is one aspect from the original Trading Spaces Genevieve will certainly miss. "Frank," she quipped. "Frank is our resident unicorn. Insightful, hilarious and kind. Without him around we get too weird." The star said of working with the rest of the cast again, "We all recognize that our sum together will always be bigger than any one of us alone — lightning in a bottle. I have worked with many of my co-stars like Vern [Yip], Ty [Pennington] and Carter [Oosterhouse]."
It was first announced in March that the hit 2000s series would make its comeback. "This is a big one," the network's president Nancy Daniels said at the time. "I am excited to announce that TLC's most successful and most iconic series... Trading Spaces is coming back."
Designers Doug Wilson, Hildi Santo-Tomas, Vern Yip, Frank Bielic, and Laurie Smith — along with carpenters Ty Pennington and Carter Oosterhouse — will also be part of the revival. Trading Spaces returns to TLC in 2018.
