In the latest issue of Closer Weekly, Oscar winner Geena Davis talks about her latest milestone — turning 60!
"I’m loving it so far! I’m weirdly excited about it,” Geena tells Closer of turning 60 this past January. "I think it’s pretty cool."
Geena tells Closer that looking back on the past 60 years, her biggest challenge in life was “learning to own my life and unlearning ideas I grew up with,” adding that "women need to realize that they can be, say, think and do things the way they want, and not feel like they have to undermine themselves. It’s been a long process for me, and I don’t know that it ever gets completed, but it certainly gets better as time goes by."

“I think it’s important for women to own their power and keep finding new challenges!” says Geena, who is a longtime advocate for women’s rights.

“In our first year, there were [nearly] 40,000 attendees. We were thrilled!” Geena tells Closer.

“He said there were probably 150 people there and a handful of movies [when it started], so we were really fortunate,” Geena says of Robert’s memory of the first Sundance Film Festival.
“The second festival is May 3 through the 8th,” Geena tells Closer. “We’re very excited!”
