Frank Sinatra Jr., a singer and the son of late music icon Frank Sinatra, has sadly died. He was 72-years-old.

Frank Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 16 after suffering a heart attack while on tour in Daytona Beach, Fla., his family confirmed in a statement to the [Associated Press](http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/USOBITFRANKSINATRAJR?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT).

The statement said the Sinatra family was in mourning over the passing of their son, brother, father and uncle. Frank Jr. was set to perform at the Peabody Auditorium as part of his Sinatra Sings Sinatra tour before he fell ill. His father, Frank, similarly died of a heart attack at age 82 in 1998.

Frank Jr. followed in his father’s musical footsteps as a teenager and spent most of his early singing career on the road. Throughout his life, he released seven albums and appeared on several TV shows, including The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and The Dean Martin Show.
