Speaking with KTRK, the dad-of-four — who already shares kids Drake, 14, Ella, 13, Duke, 9, and Emmie Kay, 7, with Joanna — explained why he is finally ready to make another addition now that their popular HGTV show is ending after five seasons.
“We had four babies right before the show started, and then we’ve had zero babies since the show started,” the 42-year-old said. “For me, I’m really excited to go back and try to maybe... try to make some more babies.” Joanna's response? “Maybe. We have different answers.”
Joanna must have changed her mind because over the summer she gushed to People magazine that she would love to expand their brood. “I would love another baby — or twins!” Joanna told the publication. “The kids are always asking me, ‘Mom, can you have another baby?’”
She also admitted that, “Chip thinks we’re done,” even though that seems to have changed, too. However, one very special person is on board — their youngest daughter, Emmie! "Emmie has never really wanted one, and now she’s like, 'OK. I want a brother or sister,'" Joanna revealed. “So I’m thinking that might be a sign.”
Whether or not they welcome another child in the near future, the HGTV couple are currently having the time of their lives with the four they've got. “They see us really doing what we love,” Joanna gushed, adding that the children often join her and Chip on the set of Fixer Upper. “One of our favorite things is to bring them to work with us.”
Back in April, Joanna penned a blog post about instilling a strong work ethic in her kids. “I explain that I have to work just like they have to go to school. I also let them know what I'm doing at work that day — whether it's filming the show or going into the office — and what time I'll be home,” she wrote. “Taking a few seconds to let them in on this other huge part of my life has really helped them understand that Mom and Dad have a big job to do.”
