Soap opera legend Linda Dano knows she has just one life to live, and her quaint Manhattan apartment is the perfect place to do it.
While she's famous for her three decades on daytime TV, most notably as Another World's romance novelist Felicia Gallant, Linda also designs the Linda Dano Vintage Gemstone Collection and styles people and places with her Strictly Personal design firm.
She put those decorating skills to work when she sold her co-op and moved east across Central Park in 2009 to Carnegie Hill, after her beloved husband, Frank Attardi, passed away.
“It was time to start fresh,” Linda, 70, shares with Closer. “I have a house in Connecticut but didn’t want to leave New York, so I rented this.”
The attraction was simple. Head through her front door and you’ll quickly catch what sold her on the one-bedroom, one-bath, 1,000-square-foot charmer.
“When you walk into the living room, the thing you’ll see are those casement windows that I love,” Linda shares beneath her dramatic beamed ceilings. "I felt at home immediately."
Designed in 1931 by noted NYC architect Rosario Candela, the building had bigger apartments from which to choose, “but [they] didn’t have those windows and the [adjoining] terrace. So I just said, ‘I’ll take it!’”
Linda often invites friends like former co-stars John Bolger, Stephen Schnetzer and Anna Holbrook over for parties, and "they drop everything and come over," she reports.
She also enjoys cooking in the sleek, railroad-kitchen where, when dogs Maude and Mabel aren't running in for a drink, Linda has room to whip up many of her pasta specialties, which she serves on the 18th-century, dining table she shipped in from England.
Just past the dining area is Linda's bedroom. With hardwood floors and accented with more earth tones, it's the place she usually ends her day.
Floating shelves “with memories of my husband” fill the space, as does a lush, wood desk, where her Emmy-award resides. And her bed, with its Ralph Lauren headboard and custom-designed frame, is the perfect place to take it all in.
