Most dentists just fix teeth, but country music star T.G. Sheppard’s doc fixed him up with the Nashville — area home he always wanted.

“We lived a block over and loved this house for years,” T.G., 71, shares with Closer. “Turns out, my dentist owned it and called us to ask if we wanted to buy it!”

When he and Kelly Lang, his country music star wife of eight years, took up the invitation to check it out in 2009, it was like coming home. “The house gives you a hug right when you walk in,” Kelly shares. “And we knew we had to move in from the moment we went through the door,” T.G. adds with a smile.

But before T.G., Kelly, and daughters Payton, 23, and Kennedy, 19, moved into the four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath house, they did “extensive renovations” to suit their active family. Among the improvements were an updated kitchen and bathrooms, plus a new deck, pool and hot tub on the half-acre lot. They also removed a few interior walls to make the 5,000 square feet inside feel even more spacious. “It was built 19 years ago, so we updated a lot of what you see,” T.G. explains.

Today, the family enjoys a palatial living room with a balcony, fireplace, 10-foot-high windows and 20-foot ceilings, under which T.G. (who’s had No. 1 country hits like “Devil in the Bottle” and “Party Time”) has partied with pals like Barry Gibb, Paul Shaffer, Lorrie Morgan, the Oak Ridge Boys and more. “We love to entertain!” he says with a laugh.

Despite his fancy company, he says “this room and all the others are built and decorated for comfort, so you can sit down and pop up your feet anywhere.” Inspired by a portrait of an elephant that Kelly painted, they chose gold and brown interior colors that match the home’s stately exterior. “What I love about this room is that it glows,” T.G. says, “because the colors, fabrics and lighting give you a warm, fuzzy feeling.”
